In Gran Canaria there are beaches of all kinds. They are the magnet that has attracted visitors for generations from all over the globe. They are very busy and well-known, like the long stretch of sand of Maspalomas. A huge line of golden sand from Playa del Ingles that touches the foot of the great lighthouse of Maspalomas, after bordering the dunes that bathes the south coast of the island.
Also in the south, you will find another long series of beaches. There are family orientated and quiet beaches, such as San Agustín, the beach of Amadores or the small beach of Puerto de Mogán. However perhaps you would prefer the entertainment of the traditional tourist trap of Puerto Rico, one of the places with the best climate in the whole country.
The south of Gran Canaria has a multitude of small beaches. All boast good weather all year round. Some are touristic, with a multitude of visitor services. Others are refuge for those who prefer secluded places.
The northern beaches of the island fit more to this type of tourist. You will find small seafaring enclaves like Agaete, a place to escape to for those who want to get away from the stress and rush of modern life.
The capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, also in the north, does not hide its beach: the cosmopolitan beach of Las Canteras is a mile-long urban beach that stretches along the city and is covered with sunbathers and surfers.
